Merry 11th day of Christmas, and Happy New Year!
Christmas this year was of course very different with dad gone, but it was still incredibly special. It’s times like these when you see the importance of family, and the need to examine your life and reevaluate your priorities. The past few weeks have been a great time to do just that…
Last week our family went on a post-Christmas/New Year’s road trip to Montana. One setback was that we didn’t have an adequate vehicle that would fit seven people, our luggage, and snowboard equipment…fortunately Craigslist came to the rescue! We called up the proud owner of a 1987 Ford Econoline Conversion Van in Monroe, Washington…a few hours later my brother-in-law and I were purchasing the A-Team’esque vehicle…a few hours after that, the seven of us were on our way to Montana!
Long story short, the blue beauty got us to Montana and back, averaging approximately 11mpg. The steering had a fair amount of play, which at one point woke my mom up from a dead sleep, screaming at the top of her lungs, yet even this seemed to be a positive thing in the end. The loose steering had us all in prayer during the drive, and it also kept us awake for most of the trip, facilitating hours of family bonding.
The family bonding continued in Montana, where we stayed for a week with my aunt, uncle and cousins in Bozeman. It turned into an amazing time, filled with great conversations, one emergency room visit, and the partial recording of my cousin Micah’s first rap single…the boys got skills!
Anyhow…all this to say, Christmas Eve with my dad’s side of the family, through New Year’s Day with my mom’s side, was very special this year...my dad would have been proud! (Although I don’t think he would have been too keen on the Ford Econoline Van…)
Have a blessed 2006…

I picture your dad in a VW Van for sure.
Sounds like you had a great time! Who went to the hospital? Are the okay now? Did you get to snowboard much? Where is the video of the young Rapper?
Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (1/6/06)
You know it...1968 split window red and white two toned VW bus...I was actually looking at a few VW's before going for the Econonline...next time!
...it was my sister Hilliary who was sick...and she's doing much better now!
Happy Newy Year, Isaac. Hope it's off to a great start.
Yes, the trip was extremely fun! The Econoline is a beautiful ride. I've heard rumors that it is in competition with the Mercedes Benz SLR in the fight for the Bond car in the latest movie. I say Econoline all the way!
Also,I almost forgot.... but if you are reading this you most likely know Isaac, and maybe even know of his extreme dancing abilities. Next time you see him, be sure and ask how his birthday dance went. Its well worth your time in asking!
Jeff you are so right... the birthday dance was amazing! I've nevere seen anything like it. I think his dance partner was in chock.
Okay Isaac, now we ALL want to see this (infamous??) dance! Next time you're in Cali, you need to have on your dancing shoes :-)
As Isaac said, Christmas this year was different without Skip being there, making jokes or telling some off the wall story! He was missed, but it was a great night. I was okay until they brought out the Wedding pictures, and of course towards the end of the film, was the film taken at the hospital the night of the wedding. Needless to say, that got all of us crying. At the end when I turned and said, "Is it over?" I wasn't expecting everyone to start laughing. I was actually needing to find a couple boxes of Kleenex! But it definately lightened up the moment! As always.....the Anderson's house is the best place to be at any time. There is always love and laughter and I am so privileged to be in this family.
Missing your dad is a powerful and good thing. I still grieve my father's absence. Grace to you my friend.
