A few pictures from yesteday...

We're one big happy familje! (family)

Here's our quaint garden as seen through my bedroom window...did you know Morning Glories change color from morning to evening?

My bedroom - notice how organized and clean it is mom!

The way in and out of the yard.

The neighbor kids...I was able to beat three of them at arm wrestling...the one on the left barely beat me...he's stronger than he looks.

More kids...they love having their picture taken...and then following you for blocks.

And some more kids...they were a bit disgusted when I told them I had been wearing the same clothes for the last 4 days. (My bags are in London...I think)

What I would consider a local equivalent to Sears.

An aqueduct down the street...it also acts as a landfill.

Some apartments across from the aqueduct.

The Kosovar equivalent to 7-11

And back to our house...in time for mashed potatoes...so good!

YES!!!!! I feel like I am there with you (well sort of). This is great. I am so excited about this film. I can't believe you're there! Its very easy to see how you can fall in love with Kosovo and it's people!

You always wear the same clothes four days in a row don't you?

Isaac,
Not matter what you do, you find a way to bring out the best in every situation. Your passion for this, and almost everything is nothing short of inspiring. I can only hope to someday be blessed with the same kind of outlook and passion.

The little things like the change of color in morning glories, the wrestling strength of skinny boy's arms, and a dish of homemade Eastern European mashed potatoes are all the grateful reminders that your dream is coming true. Luggage delays are another reality ... but you arrived, you are making progress, and nothing can truly hold you back when you have faith to press on!

So yes, Kosovo. Well, you're there within my family. I hope you know the opportunity given, that you can learn so much nuance by being with a family. Nuance that would have been lost to you had you lived on your own. Now you will know how Albanians act and react so that you'll be able to see things coming.
Careful there, Albanians are as stubborn and hardheaded as they come. If they believe something to be true than it will be difficult to dissuade them. To some Albanians, believing-is-KNOWING. Be careful on the faith aspect, most of them only believe nominally, but the ones with the beards, they believe that their form of religion is God's last revelation, and don't stand in their way bro.
Anyways. the film should work out fine, mind the multinational aspect. You really don't "need" serbs to tell your story, there are Bosnians, Turks, Gypsies, Albanian Catholics, who all can offer a very different perspective than your average Kosovar Albanian. Also you might want to have a female filmmaker, considering how far behind feminism is in Kosovo, and Europe in general, you're bound to get some awesome footage from their perspective.
Man I wish I was there.

I second Mustafa's "Man, I wish I was there." (Although I rarely say "man," sometimes "dude" slips into conversation, but I'm working on that.)

Mustafa - thank you for your thoughts about the nuances of a different culture. Very well voiced. Especially the comment about female filmmakers - not only is it a problem in Kosova, it's a problem in Hollywood.

Isaac - Thank you for the pictures, keep em coming! Praying for you daily, hourly, minutely.

Hey Rebecca, It has been a while since I last saw you. Glad to see that you're still around with the project. The "man" in my sentence was actually very emphatic, I did not mean for that to me my sign off kine, but it happened since I so strongly wish to be there, but cannot for another 9 months.
Great to talk to you again.

Mustafa -

I didn't mean anything by the "man" comment - just trying to be witty. It's good to hear your thoughts on this blog! I'll check out your blog, so we can start conversations there.

No wonder your room was organized. All your luggage was still in London. By the way your room looks at our house right now, I am not sure if you really took anything with you. Giggle, gaggle!
Love, Mom
