What do you think?
How am I gonna tell this story…what story do I even focus on? I can see this film being told as a journey…a journey to find and tell the untellable story of Kosovo. One where you interview people, asking them how they might go about telling their country’s story. So, rather than telling some political saga, or a “What bleeds, leads.” story, focus on why we can’t focus on these stories. The bottom line is, even a neutral story in Kosovo will turn into a divisive, controversial film, that will most likely do more harm than good. It’s as if you need to go into Kosovo and make a film that has nothing to do with the real story you want to tell, hoping that in some way, it’s a vehicle that allows the truth to rise to the surface. What could that “catalyst” story be?
Could it be a documentary telling the story of how the Albanians and Serbians worked together, and made a narrative film? So, you actually go in, and film the two groups working together on a film project that really has nothing to do with Kosovo. They tell their own story, write their own script, direct their own actors, and I simply capture the story of their story. This would of course require getting a good script, getting a team of people who’ve never worked in film to somehow come together, work for free, and produce, light, shoot, act, and edit a narrative film.
So, the story would really have nothing to do with Kosovo, but in actuality, it would have everything to do with Kosovo; bringing two conflicting people groups together on a project that could only be pulled off if people work together, focusing on the common goal of story telling.

Thank you for trying to tell a story that would seem to be impossible to tell. Your passion is inspiring.
I like the idea of the film festival. Why not let the Kosavars tell it like they see it through film? Your doc could be a compilation of short film stories woven together.

Maybe no one wants to talk about it....just like a railroad spike thrown through a truck window (ipod gone) for cash for some crack...or someone yelling into my ear... Evil was done.....
No one likes to talk about evil... at least when we all are guilty of it.... really easy to point fingers too. I remember Kosovo... but I didn't talk about it much... same with Africa or even here at home.... I read a little about "the war between the states" or "Civil War" but even to this day our nation is healing from that evil.
So how do you tell a story.... I guess the story has to come from many not just a few... old to young the good ones well be those who are not so numbed by pain /anger and bitterness and have a greater hope than what they see before them.
I like your idea about letting them create and tell their story rather than you gathering interview after interview which has been done countless times... to actually film both groups of people working together would show the process of themes such as hope forgiveness at work as you capture them...
And if done right I would make it your goal to make their film better than yours...maybe you direct it... and help them capture... what would be hard for anyone on the outside to do.
It would be interesting to see how they focus on their hopes beyond... what is hope defined for them... solid or an impossible dream to stand upon... can forgiveness happen...how...ect.
